WRITING

  • March – April 2009: Did a 4-week internship at Truro Daily News in Truro, NS as a part of my education. Received 100% on my internship mark for the academic year.
  • January – March 2009: Did an online internship on College Jolt.
  • December 2008: Had an article published in Career Options Magazine.
  • November 2008: Had my first article published in the Prince Edward Island arts magazine, The Buzz.
  • November 2008: Had my first article published in the college newspaper, The Surveyor.
  • June 2008: Started doing freelance articles for Mookychick.
  • April 2008: Became a blogger for the myUsearch blog.
  • August 2007 – April 2008: Maintained an online arts magazine, Jill Pushed Jack and interviewed (via email) women in the arts like musicians Amanda Palmer, Rebekah Higgs and Carmen Townsend and comedian Maria Bamford.
  • May 2005: Graduated from The Institute of Children’s Literature and was offered a position in the advanced course.
  • September 2005 – February 2006: Wrote monthly articles for my high school newspaper, The Cougar Chronicles, while in Journalism 12.
  • September 2002 – June 2003: I wrote a monthly music review in my junior high school newspaper, The Wesman Gazette.

ONLINE EXPERIENCE

  • July 2009: Opened East Coast Overture, a music website focusing on music from NS, NB, NL and PEI.
  • January – March 2009: Did an online internship on College Jolt.
  • April 2008 – August 2009: Blogged for the myUsearch blog.
  • February 2008: Started my first-ever niche blog, Kill Jill Goes To College.
  • August 2007 – April 2008: Started Jill Pushed Jack. (See “Writing” for more details.)
  • July 2007: Started Flogalicious, a directory for fictional blogs.
  • January 2005 – July 2007: Built and managed a fansite for the TV series House, House-Online.org (which was, at one time, the most extensive House fansite on the internet).
  • 2001-ish: Began blogging, mostly personal.
  • 1998-ish: Began learning HTML, building small websites and basic graphic design.

THEATRE

  • January – May 2007: Was the Head Stage Manager for the Cobequid Educational Centre production of High School Musical.
  • June 2006 & 2007: Presented shortened versions of Chicago (for Drama 11) and The Producers (for Musical Theatre 12).
  • February – April 2003: Was a prompter for the West Colchester Consolidated School production of Rumpelstiltskin.

VOLUNTEER WORK

  • November 2008 – April 2008: Served as class representative for my college Journalism class.
  • October 2005 and October 2006: Volunteered at a public Halloween haunted house.
  • September – October 2002: Volunteered at the West Colchester Consolidated School library, shelving books.

AWARDS

  • June 2005 and June 2006: Received Honors in both grade 10 and 11.
  • June 2003: Received the Eric Rackham Bursary at West Colchester Consolidated School.

EDUCATION

OTHER

  • October 2009: Organized the 2009 Charlottetown Zombie Walk.
  • Summer of 2008 & 2009: Worked part-time at a convenience store, working at the register and stocking.
  • March 2008: Was interviewed about blogging on Webmaster Journal. (Read the interview here.)
  • April – June 2003: Was a member of the prom committee at West Colchester Consolidated School.
  • Twice took an art class taught by local painter, Joy Laking.

SKILLS & HOBBIES

  • Can type ninety words a minute and am very comfortable using a computer.
  • Am familiar with Paint Shop Pro, Open Office, Audacity and many other applications. Also familiar with online research and weblogs and basic HTML, CSS, iMovie and web design.
  • I enjoy writing (fiction and non-fiction), photography, web design, graphic design, historical research, scrapbooking, painting, blogging and reading.
